Dawn Woodley is a great example of an artist that uses themes of capitalism in her work. Her work is centred on consumer culture among other relating themes. She creates figures made from materials created, used and thrown away by capitalist societies, and turns them into something to be created by a mere commodities. In doing this she has turned what was once waste products into goods that can be traded in a capitalist society. This can viewed both negatively or positively. Arguably by doing this she is creating an original artwork with the intent to inspire others and for others to enjoy, not to make profit. On the other hand, she could be seen as to diversify capitalism and almost encourage it in not just business but in art. You could say the same applies to sustainable fashion. By turning waste materials produced by consumers in capitalist societies into new garments to be sold (or commodities) you are either creating art and therefore turning something capitalist into something with value, or just contributing more to capitalism by creating a a new business. Her art work defines a capitalist society in all senses, when relating it to sustainability a reoccurring factor always seems to portray negative affects in the sense of waste. I feel as though her art work is a symbol of what consumers can reiterate within their own commodities in the sense of fashion to reuse, reduce and recycle.
